In 2020 the WSU Food Systems Program created a networking and resource sharing space which we now call the HUB. We re-launched this event as a four part series in the winter/spring of 2023 to meet current needs.

Hub Call 2025

What is Sustainable Meat?

In the May 2025 Hub call “Complexity and Tradeoffs in Animal Agriculture Sustainability,” researchers will share key findings from a USDA-funded project exploring how better communication can foster trust and understanding between producers and consumers. The project reveals that while consumers often receive oversimplified or conflicting messages about meat and sustainability, deeper engagement and education—especially with Gen Z—can lead to more thoughtful, nuanced views and practical choices like “less but better” meat consumption. This collaborative effort between WSU, UW, UMN, and the Agriculture and Food Systems Institute highlights the need for more interdisciplinary research, tailored messaging, and shared dialogue to address the real-world challenges facing animal agriculture.

In response to COVID-19 the WSU Food Systems Program created the HUB. We are re-vitalizing this important professional development and networking seminar in 2023 to meet current needs.
