The Washington State University Food Systems Program integrates multidisciplinary expertise across extension, research, and teaching; offering specialized resources for strengthening the sustainability of Washington’s food and farming systems. We partner with communities throughout the state to restore agroecosystems; support thriving food and farm businesses; and develop harvesting, processing and distribution systems that ensure access to culturally relevant, healthy food for all.

We grew from the roots of the Small Farms Program, built on many years of dedicated support for the diverse small farms that comprise 90% of Washington’s farms. We continue to support this crucial demographic of growers and the communities that sustain them while taking a holistic approach to building sustainable and equitable regional food systems.
