Farm Walk Series: Season Extension in High Value Specialty Crops

July 10, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Tilth Alliance and WSU collaborate for the fourteenth year of the Farm Walk program! The program was designed to transfer the hard-earned expertise of established farmers to the current and next generations of sustainable producers. Each Farm Walk features farmer-to-farmer education through a tour of farm or business, with guest experts on hand to share the most current research and resources.

Farm walks usually take place on Mondays, from noon-4 p.m. Registration is $15 for Tilth Alliance members and students and $25 for non-members.

Growing Washington is a 70 acre diversified, certified organic farm spread across eight sites in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. The farm grows over 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables each year that it sells through its CSA program of roughly 1,500 members and at fifteen farmers markets in the Puget Sound Region. The farm has six greenhouses and over twenty high tunnels to help extend the growing season on high-value crops including raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, and other specialty crops. WSU specialist will be on hand to provide additional information about season extension and specialty crops.
